The WordPress Domain Parking Theme

If you have just registered a new domain or are building a new website, usually the domain has no real information value. The WordPress Domain Parking Theme tells the user nicely about your intention and to enter their email adress or to subscribe to your RSS feed to get updated when the site is ready. This will get you an audience before you even have published 1 post.

This type of landing page has dropped the annoying construction cones and replaced with relevant and useful features. Namely among this is a sign up form to be notified of an actual launch, beta release, or other significant milestone. And of course this is a great way to build a nice mailing list of people to market a new product to. After all, if they actually complete the form they are likely to be very interested. Link.

Well, it is a great idea. Domain parking as such is not working - you’re giving too much to your parking company, better host it as a microsite and keep all revenue to yourself. IdoBlogs, you can block your feed through robots.txt or remove the link from the theme.

Thank you for this hint. One workaround for this is to add not your general rss feed, instead use one of a special announcement category which is only for those news you want your subscribers to know. So for example do not add http://www.knowtebook.com/feed to Feedburner, add http://www.knowtebook.com/cate.....ement/feed

I love this concept, and this theme is a nice way of passing along updates, but I would also issue this warning that we absent-minded folks sometimes forget - whatever you post will be in your feed, so don’t plan on building content secretly before going public. Great theme though - I think it’s very nice, but generic enough for any site to use.
